Acceptance Commitment Therapy
… is a form of counselling that teaches skills and techniques to work with your thoughts and feelings. It is not about telling you to think positive or stop your thoughts. It is about learning to, accept your thoughts with open curiosity. We then defuse those thoughts, and then move forward from a values based system. This is about taking committed action.
Acceptance commitment therapy is considered the new form of counselling in many circles. And is used by many therapists, instead of cognitive based therapy (CBT), which can takes years to get results.
Let’s be honest, that elephant you are thinking about right now is not real. This is a great indication that your mind, your imagination can bring thoughts to light that are not real. However, when we dwell on those thoughts the mind will also help you by finding other situations etc that support what you are thinking about. Learning to recognise and accept, diffuse and move on, is the best gift you can give yourself.
