Depression is much more than just feeling down. It’s a debilitating and horrible place to be. It can be a very dark and lonely place with feelings of hopelessness and thoughts of not wanting to continue. Too many people suffer in silence.
While nearly all of us will feel sad, moody, or down at times, people who are depressed have these feelings more intensely and for longer periods of time, sometimes even years. People who are depressed find it hard to function on a day to day basis. It’s as if the enjoyment has been sucked out of their life, something as simple as getting out of bed can become a major struggle.
Depression is one of the most prevalent mental illnesses we have today, it has been estimated that one in four people will experience depression at some stage in their life.
Stress, anxiety and depression whether we like it or not are part of our lives. It is a sign of strength to get help if you need it. Don’t be afraid to talk to your loved ones about these issues, be there for each other, and get help if needed. Don’t let yourself or someone you love become a statistic.
