We have been programmed to live in a world where our dreams aren’t ‘reality’ and as children, we very quickly learn to hide our natural tendencies and treasures away to fit this mould. We close our picture books, put away our dancing feet, shut off our intuitive senses and look towards a more ‘grown-up’ way of believing and becoming. The magic is lost and a spiritual death starts to occur as we move away from our innate gifts.
I invite you to become your familiar child-like self again, to look through fresh eyes and reconnect with what once made you smile and brought you to your youthful happiness. What was it for you? Was it drawing, singing, climbing trees, teaching, telling stories or was it simply a state of being rather than constantly doing? Do you remember?
If you are unsure, keep your eyes open. Look for those special people who light up the sidewalk. You know the ones. You see it in their eyes, hear it in their voice and feel it radiating out of their entire being. What do they all have in common? They are usually exploding their joy in such a way, that we can’t help but get splatters on ourselves. Observe your reaction. Do you nod in recognition? Or do you smile that painful and all too familiar smile that acknowledges the lost and unfamiliar world within yourself?
This was once my reality, a whole galaxy within myself forgotten. I still tussle with it from time to time. I am after all human. Often when I’m ready to ride off into the sunset on my unicorn of creative fire and self-expression, those magma butterflies lose their wind and my volcano lies dormant again, but not for long.
So, if it is fear holding you back from your truth, know you are not alone. Strike those heart-strings and drum that heart-beat anyway because all fear is, is excitement without the breath. In other words, speak your truth, even if your voice shakes, fake it till you make it – whatever mantra works for you.
Know your true medicine is your joy. Watch it spread as a beacon of hope, letting everyone else know it is okay to be exactly who they are, who we are collectively. With this knowing, our sense of magic and child-like wonder returns. We start to trust our own heart’s compass and begin to show up authentically in the world again.
Every one of us has medecine in our fingers. The answers have always been there, waiting to be dug up so we can remember who we are and create change from this place – for the sake of ourselves and our human tribe, our ancestors and mother earth.
