“I’m gonna make a change for once in my life,
It’s gonna feel real good,
Gonna make a difference,
Gonna make it right.”
Can you name that tune?
It was popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s by a talented man who began his career at a young age. “I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking him to change his ways, and no message could have been any clearer, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, and then make a change.” How about now? Michael Jackson wasn’t very far off the mark when he sang this song “Man in the Mirror.”
So, many times we want things to be different whether it be our lives, careers, or even the world at large, and yet we stand back against the wall and watch without putting any effort. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just speak change into existence? Let’s face it things would be changing all the time, unfortunately that is not always possible. If you want something to change, the majority of the time YOU have to be the one to make it happen. Now, this goes both ways because some things are in fact out of our control, but those things that are in our control are things we can do something about.
Can a person create change in others?
When you are in the process of creating change in yourself, you tend to focus on that what you want rather than the negative that may be around you. This can help stop us being judgmental of others, and be more understanding and compassionate. This new sense of appreciation for people can help replace the negative complaints we may have about people, it can help us to look inward and see our own flaws instead of just seeing the flaws in others.
By creating change within ourselves we can encourage others to do the same. Particularly once people see the positive impact you have created in your own life. It is often said that one person can’t make a difference but that is incorrect, one person can change themselves, their circumstances, and light the spark that will help others want to make a change in themselves as well. So the next time you want something different, remember change starts with you, so get up and be the change you want to see!
