We all want to be happy in life and often the one thing holding us back is fear. Fear can be translated into any area of your life and can stop you in your tracks. Fear can impact your success in life, whether in relationships or at work. So what are some healthy habits that you can adopt, or some limiting beliefs/not so helpful habits that you can break to live a happier and more successful life? To be honest there are many others that could be added to this list. However, I feel that if you master these you are more than half way there and the rest will occur naturally.
So don’t let fear stop you. Start at the top and work your way down the list, the results will be worth it. Don’t procrastinate start now.
To be more successful in life, be a person who:
1. Accepts change
Change seems to be a big one for a lot of people. Something as simple as a change in a procedure at work can send someone into a tail spin. The reality is change is unavoidable, it happens every second of every day. Life is dynamic. If you want to be a success, then become flexible. The person with the most flexibility will always come out on top. They become like a beautiful supple tree branch and bend in the wind, stay strong under a heavy storm, and can bear the weight of a flock of birds. Become like a tree; strong, supple and resilient.
2. Accepts what they can and can’t control
I have said it before and will say it again. Trying to control things outside of your control only leads to angst, anger, pain and heartache. At work and within your relationships. Trying to change something or someone else is like trying to turn the tide back with a teaspoon (one of my favourite sayings). You know how difficult it can be for you to change a behaviour or something about yourself. So what makes you think you will have success with others. Change the things that you can, learn to accept those that you cannot. And if you seriously cannot accept the change then walk away. Don’t dwell on it and make yourself and others miserable.
3. Doesn’t live in the past
The past has happened, you cannot change it no matter what you do. You cannot go back and undo what you may have done, nor can you go back and have someone undo what they may have done. You can’t, you know because you have tried in the past, it is an impossibility. So learn to let go, and live in the now. Obsessing about the past kills your now and ultimately ruins your future.
4. Learns from their mistakes
It is ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Don’t beat yourself up, again you cannot go back in time and do it differently. What you can do is assess what went wrong, learn from it and do it again, and again if necessary. The most important thing is learn from your mistake and don’t make the same one again. We have all heard the saying, doing something the same way and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.
5. Loves their alone time
Once you are able to be alone and happy in your own company you are well on the way to having success in your life. Being able to sit with your own stillness and accept who you are totally and completely, without any reservation is a truly amazing experience. Being around people is wonderful and for me a necessity, but once you learn to love your own company you will never be alone.
I would love to hear how you go implementing these steps into your daily routine.
